The ATRW Plaque has landed in NZ thanks to FAB from NSW in Australia and on Valentines day 14/02/15 it will join the 2 loves of my life both called Gisele (my partner and 2014 Thunderbird Storm) on a cruise around the Nth Island and the top half of the South Island of New Zealand. For 10 days we will be crusin and exploring parts of our beautiful country that we have never seen. This has also been made possible due to this forum and communicating with people whom I now call friends (Hogeyphenogey from Mass USA) and (n2dwind from Florida USA) who have ensured my other half has a comfortable ride. I will keep you all posted of our journey and upload photos at the completion of this trip we have been planing for the last year .

Hi Keith,

Looking forward to the pictures. Hopefully the weather will be as nice for you as it is down here in South Florida. 79 degrees and sunny yesterday so I took the bike out for a ride up the coast, really like ridding by the Ocean and watching the waves roll in.

WOW what an experience. We rode 4044.7kms ,used 253.24litres of fuel costing $527 works out at 16kms a litre ,.I startedto write when on the road but decided to enjoy the moment. My partner really enjoyed this trip also and only complained a couple of times re sore arse but she had been on the bike for nearly 3 hours.. Toooo long
Day 1 We left Christchurch rode up the east coast caught the ferry and spent the night in Wellington. Then the ride trully began as we rode roads I had never ridden before.
Day 2 Over the Rimataka ranges and stayed in Napier for the night.
Day 3The next day we rode to Tologa bay taking a detour on the way to Mahia point and got a little wet for our troubles. Stayed in Tologa Bay and visited the longest warf in the southern hemisphere.
Day 4 was a huge ride with challening roads ,lots of 45/55 km corners and I don't think there a straight bit of road longer than 1km for nearly 370 kms/ Finally got to Whakatane and in obvious need of having to replace my rear tyre and having to remove a lot fo sticky bitum out of the belt drive on the way did not make this the most enjoyable ride. Also had to wait around due to a gang shooting in Te Araroa the previous evening and the armed defenders squad blocking the road.Never heard any more of it thou.
Day 5 Left the next morning and rode to Whitianga stopping briefly in Tauranga and having lunch in Whangamata and a good swim as it was stinking hot We stayed for 2 days in Whitianga while we awaited a new tyre to arrive during which time we went on a boat cruise.
Day 7 We rode around the Coromandel and .just past Thames we found a bikers pub at a place called Kopu .Again we were rained upon as we rode through Auckland and stayed in Whangarei.
Day 8The following day we continued to ride the coast and and found a great place to stay Pukenui halfway between Kaitaia and Cape Reinga. We stayed there for 2 days ,spending one day to go up to the cape(End of the road) and also explore a couple of the beautiful bays .
Day 10 Another big day as we rode the west coast and caught the ferry from Rawene across the Hokinga Harbour and then through the Waipoua Forest and viewed the largest Kauri Tree (Tane Mahuta) before riding the rest of the west coast avoiding most of Auckland city by turning of at Welsford via Titarangi and coming out at Manakau.
Day 11 We rode to Rotorua to visit my daughter.(small world she works with TBERD) another forum member. It was great to chew the fat with him share a beer , ideas and advice and make another friend.
Day 13 Having left Rotorua early we stopped in Taupo for breakfast and rode down the Dessert Highway then taking the west coast we arrived back in W@ellinton (Petone) and booked our ferry ticket for the following day.
DAY 14 Caught the Ferry from Wellington to Picton, rode to Kaikoura for lunch arriving home (Christchurch )7clock that night.\Belt drive still itact .
What a trip . We did not ride all the roads that I wanted or planned but there is always next year.I would also plan to meet other forum members if I knew I was going to be passing their way. I am still trying to upload photos without boring you all but still capturing the moment
My advise is Have a dream/goal,or a bucket list but whatever you do ....do it on a Thunderbird.
Now who would like the Plaque (ARTW) so it can continue to see the world?

HI Guys

If you would like to include the African Continent I will most certainly like to oblige.

I am planning a 3000km trip through the full length of South Africa in April and would be honoured to take the disc on that journey.

Glen
